Urban Word Wednesday: Foo Foo Drink

Welcome to Urban Word Wednesday! New words, phrases, and sayings I am learning (and using in my day-to-day life) brought to you by ME…and the Urban Dictionary. You are gonna love these!

Foo-Foo Drink: An alcoholic beverage that is way too pretty or feminine. These drinks are usually characterized by lots of whipped cream, multiple fruit decorations and/or umbrellas. Also, they tend to be low in alcohol content.

Examples Of Use:

Hubby and I went to the liquor store last night to purchase some samplings for our upcoming beach/cottage weekend; much to the amusement of the staff. This is the convo we had at the cash register.

Hubby: what in God’s name are those?

Me: Blue Curacao and raspberry Sour Puss…why?

*handing bottles to the guy at cash*

Hubby: what concoction are you going to make with those?

Me: holy water.

*guy at cash near spits out his water*

Hubby: holy water????

Me: remember the foo foo drink I had at the restaurant last week? The blue and red thing that you scoffed at till you tasted it?

Hubby: yeah…

Me: it’s called holy water. It’s a shot of Blue Curacao, raspberry Sour Puss and sprite. I’m going to add some fresh orange pieces and real raspberries and maybe some of those little umbrellas to really dress it up. I mean…wouldn’t that make a great beach foo foo drink for this weekend? A taste sensation.

Hubby: couldn’t just be easy and take beer, eh????

Me: I wanted something tasty…and pretty….

*hubby looks to cash guy who nods his head in total guy understanding*

Me (to both of them): whatever…just ring in my bottles!

What are your favorite summertime foo food drinks? Come on y’all…share the recipes!!! I need to keep hubby on his toes.

Remote control fun for the pool

Ok, so I don’t own a pool or a hot tub but man…when I saw the remote control and snack float all I could think is THAT would be perfect for my “someday” pool parties!!!

I can picture it now….hubby loading drinks and there I can be, sunning myself, relaxing pool side while at the SAME time being the world’s best pool party hostess delivering refreshments to my guests from the comfort of my lounger.

This bad boy will let me send 5 floating deliciously divine drinks AND some munchies around the water via remote control. With a simple push of the button, my guests can let their cares drift away maxin’ and relaxin’ in the pool and when the remote control snack float sputters by, they can take their refill and leave their empty aboard.

Talk about the hostess with the mostest!

And…imagine the fun I can have bringing drinks within inches of their grasping little hands only to whisk them away. Squeeee…gotta keep guests on their toes!

The cost of this floating fabulousness is about $75.99 US (plus shipping) and is a must have for anyone planning a pool party this summer. At least until the R2D2 drink waiter gets created.

What pool gadgets catch your attention? Think you’d enjoy this remote control bad boy?

It’s Twisted Tuesday and that means it’s time to enjoy a smile, giggle or laugh…here’s hoping I’ve provided it in spades…enjoy!

Better late than never…linky love

It’s Thursday and that means it’s time to share the blog luv.

Better late than never. Sorry for the delay on today’s post but I’ve been home nursing a migraine. Hope you enjoy the line-up.

Social Media Out Loud:

  • Our furry little friend, Woodie and his creator Carrie Spencer, gives us a little WordPress magic knowledge on working with headers, footers, and widgets. Eeekeee…time to personalize that WordPress blog!

Write Out Loud:

  • Trish Loye Elliott did a fantastic post on how she lost her writing mojo but then, rediscovered it through reading!
  • Donna Newton did a fantastic post on writing with your active vs passive voice. Her examples really helped me see the difference.
  • Debra Kristi gets her writing inspiration from music. Then she uses photos to help solidify the ideas in her mind’s eye. She gives us all a beautiful and mystical peak into that world. I was simply blown away by the beauty of it. Definitely inspiring!
  • Ellie Ann Soderstrom did a very powerful post on what she learned from The Girl With A Dragon Tattoo. It blew me away. I don’t think I’ll watch the movie (too much for me) but I do think I’ll read the books.
  • I absolutely loved Lani Wendt Young’s post on why she won’t ever be a best-selling author. Super cute!
  • David Gaughran did a fantastic and extensive post on Amazon’s new KDP Select program and took a look at the bigger picture of subscription models and how authors will collectively define future compensation for their work.
  • Jennifer Eaton gave us a great look at why beta-readers are so important. Because no matter how much editing you do, you will always be reading what you think you wrote.

Life Out Loud:

  • Lesann Berry did a great post awhile back that inspired me. It had THE greatest motivational image for women. It was about aspiring to be the best we can, and try to do right. As she wisely said “we might not always make it there – but efforts are meaningful.” I agree.
  • Marcia Richards did a truly wonderful post on how sometimes abstaining from venting for a period of time and allowing that steam to build, you can harness the power of your frustrations to cause a change in your status quo.

Laugh Out Loud:

I hope you enjoyed this week’s line-up of fantabulous blog posts. Stay tuned for next week’s. I promise to go and spend oodles of time (time away from friends and family I’ll have you know…) to bring you this do-or-die information…My god…you guys must really love me!!

Got any ditties of your own to share? Let me know and maybe they’ll be featured as part of next week’s line-up…
