Urban Word Wednesday: Hairitude

Welcome to Urban Word Wednesday! New words, phrases, and sayings I am learning (and using in my day-to-day life) brought to you by ME…and the Urban Dictionary. You are gonna love these!

Today’s post was inspired by one of our very own bloggers extraordinaire; the wordsmith Julie Glover who writes Amaze-ing Words Wednesday posts that I never miss. One such Wednesday, I came across a delightful little gem on neologisms (new words) and I knew without a shadow of a doubt, it’d be featured over here where we get a little bit raunchier with our word fun.

Hairitude: A neologism of “hair” + “attitude”. The term can apply to any chick with an out-of-the-box, over-the-top hairdo that communicates an “I am all that” attitude.

Well girl…have I got some hairitude for YOU!

Examples Of Use:

When hubby and I were in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic this year for our vacation, I got braids put into my hair. These totally made the majority of my trip fuss-free and relaxing! I got me plenty of hairitude wearing these bad boys, let me tell ya. Bo Derek eat your heart out.

When we got home, it took hubby and I about 2 hours to take the darn things out. But lord….that amped up my hairitude to a triple z snap!!

Hubby: wowzers, that’s some kind of hair. Grrrr…I actually find it kind of sexy….

Me: GRRROOOWWWWLLLLL I’ll be your lioness tonight love! Let me shake, rattle and roll. I’m gonna do a double back hand spring Gold dismount tonight! Buckle up…the hairitude’s taking over and you are in for the ride of your life!

Hubby: I’m afraid…don’t hurt me!

What’s your fav hairitude style? What hairitude makes you hold your head up high? Any hairitude photos from the 80s to share? You can post pics in the comment section so don’t be shy! Come on…be bold!!

More blog deliciousness here:

  • OMG I near died reading Rant Rave Write’s post about her and her hubby’s top 4 communications tools to avoid mass disasters. Hilarious and I think hubby and I could use a few of these…ok…all of them!
  • LOVED Julie Winn’s post about father’s day cards. I agree Julie, having a selection that goes beyond the lawn mowing and farting talents would be delightful.

  1. That’s some serious hairitude! I hope you didn’t break Hubby with your wild antics.

By the way, you have the prettiest brown eyes! I love your lioness pic where you’re not wearing any make up ~ gorgeous!

  2. I always thought that super sleek, straightened hair gave me the best hairittude, because that is what I was used to. But, as I’ve been trying to get used to my naturally wavy hair, I’ve started to like it. Last weekend when I straightened my hair to go out, I realized I didn’t have the usual hairittude I used to. Now, it’s time to figure out how to get extra fancy with the natural wave. That will give me extra hairittude!

    • It’s a new hairitude Emma! Luv it! I used to do straight, sleek and smooth as well but am now embracing my curls. I pump them up and let em’ fly. It’s a very liberating hairitude. Here’s to finding your groove!!! FUN!!!

  3. How adorable are you?!? Love those braids and kinky waves. 🙂 My hair is super straight, so it’s fun to whip out the curlers on occasion. And I totally rocked hot pink streaks—that wouldn’t come out—argh!— one Halloween. lol My favorite is down or in a simple ponytail nowadays. It’s easy and feels authentic. Fab post!

    • HOT PINK streaks….OMG I wish!! LOL!! Well girl, you always gotta work what you got. And there’s nothing hotter than authentic….woot woot!!! Here’s to your maxin’ and relaxin’ hairitude!

  4. Did your scalp feel all tingly after taking the braids out?

My sister did that once during a trip to the Caribbean, except people mistook her as African-American. She tans to brown-berry, has curly black hair…we so don’t look like sisters, LOL.

And you look way hotter than Bo Derek 😀 Love the lioness pic!

Can’t say I do much with the hair these days. It’s just too hot for hairitude. Off the face and neck, usually in a ponytail, is all that matters when it’s in the triple digits!

    • My scalp tingled like crazy for a couple of days after getting them in…and getting them out! LOL!! I could just scratch and scratch…

No way?!?!? Oh well, as long as she had fun, that’s all that matters.

TRIPLE digits. Yeah. Say no more. I like it hot but no one can deal with hair in that heat. UGH! Ponytail, bun, or ball cap!! LOL!!

  5. prudencemacleod says:

Love the braids, but the lioness roars. Woman, you are gorgeous. 🙂

  6. Karen McFarland says:

I love your hairitude Natalie! A very beachy look girl! Wahoo! The lioness look, very liberating, if you know what I mean. LOL! I agree with Prudence. Let it roar girl! Watch out Hubby! 🙂

  7. Ahahahahahaha. Hairtitude. I think any girl has suffered through this a time or two. Love the pics!! 🙂

  8. That was great! I have pretty crazy hair, crazy enough that my husband “lovingly” calls me medusa sometimes, but I think your lion hair beats my medusa hair. 😉

  9. Love the hair intrude, Natalie! The braids looked gorgeous on you, but the lioness ‘do was pure fun!

    • Awwww….tks Marcia!! The braids make everything so much easier down south. I wish there was a way I could mimic the lioness look any day. I’d totally wear that out and watch people point and stare. LOL!!

  10. LOL, Natalie! So glad you took a pic of the result after undoing the braids. Wow!

Men are so…suggestible, aren’t they? Every time I get a different hairstyle, usually going from long to short, the hubster keeps looking at me.

“What?” I ask. “Don’t you like it?”

“I like it a LOT. It’s kind of a turn-on; I feel like I’m messing around with another woman. Which gives me an idea….”

I have to be careful when I schedule haircuts, haha!

  11. Natalie, I am SO using that word from now on. I have no good hair looks (straight, somewhat limp brown hair.) I feel I’ve done something special when I wear a headband.

  12. Love your hair, Natalie. Especially the braids! The lioness look is pretty cool, too. Kind of a retro 80’s thing going on there. I try to avoid hairitude. For me that usually means my hair is looking like half a pompon…and that’s not a good look for me. 🙂

    • I definitely like the retro 80s look! LOL!! Oh girl…gotta find a way to tame that wild side, eh?! Or let it loose. LOL!

      • LOL. I tame mine by just leaving it alone after I wash it. When I try to dry it at 55 mph, or with a hair dryer, this whole poufy thing lands on my head in a BIG way. Then I need to do the whole flat iron thing… Can’t complain though. I’d rather have too much hair than too little. 🙂

        • I hear ya!!! I try to stay away from the blow dryer as well. I normally wash my hair at night and tie it up into a bun. Then my curls are half dried and ready for some scrunching spritz in the morning. 10 minutes and I’m done.
Yes….too much is always better than too little! LOL! 🙂

        • That’s a good idea, Natalie. Except I don’t know how to do a bun. I usually put a couple of braids in my hair, but rarely when it’s wet. I just don’t like waking up looking like Cousin It…and having to find my face so I can get back to sleep. 🙂

  13. That’s some serious hairitude, Natalie! Looks good on ya!

  14. I kinda like the kinky do! I try to rock some hairatude. Thanks Natalie!

  15. Hairitude ~ I love it! It reminds me of an article I read today about the new character in the animated movie Brave. They wanted her hair to symbolize her free spirit, and the animators spent three years writing two programs that would control the movement of each lock of hair and make it align with her body movements.

  16. LOVE! If I ever go somewhere where they do that, I’m on it. Haritude = hungry lioness/blogger. Watch out world. Of course, my hair’s so long now, I’d just look like an enraged Sasquatch, but I’d do it anyway!

  17. I had to wait until there were some awesome comments to read as well. I LOVE this post, Natalie! You totally have hairitude. You amped it up and worked it, girlfriend!

I think the only things required for hairitude are (1) something different with your hair and (2) attitude! I agree that the BRAVE chick has awesome hairitude! I can’t wait to see that flick.

Here’s another hairitude pic I love: http://www.fanpop.com/spots/young-frankenstein/images/4190487/title/young-frankenstein-screencap (Gotta love Madeline Kahn for pulling it off).
