Welcome to Urban Word Wednesday! New words, phrases, and sayings I am learning (and using in my day-to-day life) brought to you by ME…and the Urban Dictionary. You are gonna love these!
Glamping (a most beloved portmanteau): Shorthand for glamorous camping; luxury camping. It’s like regular camping but with nicer things than usual, being warmer, and more comfortable.
Examples Of Use:
Hubby and I were doing some shopping at Canadian Tire when I struck gold.
Me: OMG! It’s perfect. I can’t wait to go glamping with this treasure!
Hubby: glamping?!?
Me: you know…DUH….glamour camping!
Hubby: I should have known if there was such a thing, you’d find it.
Me: I am totally taken that as a compliment!
Me: don’t you think this stainless steel wine glass says rustic, glamour? It’s glamping baby. It’s our new camping style! Consider it like an upgrade…
Hubby: I must say, it suits you perfectly!
Me: I know, doesn’t it?!?! I think I’ll bedazzle it with some hot pink rhinestones to really glamp it up!
Hubby: that’d be swell – can you make me one in blue?
Me: absolutely…and I found you a little glamping treasure I think you’ll love. I mean, you know I wouldn’t want you to feel left out. How about THIS for cooking up our yummies while we are roughing it?
Hubby: that’s certainly an upgrade to our frying pan over an open fire. I could adjust…I think I’m gonna like glamping!!!
What’s your camping style? Would you go glamping? What other glamping gems have you seen that are “must haves”?
P.S. Remember, hubby and I are on vacation until April 23, 2012 but have fun and talk amongst yourselves!

hehehe My Idea of glamping is a weekend at the Hilton, now that’s glamping. Thanks again for another smile to start the day.
I’m with Prudence on the definition of glamping for me! Hope the vacay is totally a blast!
LOL! It almost makes me think I’d like glamping. If it is at a hotel with room service, I’m in! 🙂
I still occasionally tent, but I don’t love it. Mostly I don’t love the math I do in my head at 4 a.m., trying to figure out if my bladder is big enough to last 2 hours. I solve for x. Or maybe p.
My parents spend 5 months a year in Arizona in their rock star tour bus, complete with 4 flatscreen TVs. Now that’s glamping.
Happy vacay! And thanks for the linky love, Nat. 🙂
I might be able to wrap my mind around Glamping. I keep telling the family that I’ll camp as long as it’s in a log cabin with a box of wine. 😉
Gotta say my idea of glamping is more along the lines of an RV 😆 Hope you’re having a fab vacation!
Ha. I would think they just sold tires at Canadian Tire. Who knew? We are planning a camping trip to the Grand Canyon this summer, I wonder if I can sneak some glamping equipment in my luggage? Definitely a bedazzled wine opener. That sounds like a must. 🙂
Grand Canyon – oooooh I am so jealous and a bedazzled wine opener – LUV IT!!! Here’s to a great glamping trip Shannon – be sure to post pictures! 🙂
I’m not a camper, but I could maybe be a glamper. LOL
Ginger’s idea has my vote. But we’ll have to pour that boxed wine into your fabulous glamping goblet, Natalie!
How do you find a stainless steel goblet at Canadian TIRE? LOL! Sounds like you two will have a great time “glamping”!
LMAO. This makes me think of the opening of this week’s Bones. A family was going camping, loaded to the hilt, half of which they didn’t need. We’re the same way – our camping consists of cabins for a week, and our electronics come with!
Oh, and my sister is notorious for her boxes of wine. Good, and cheap!
This is so YOU, Natalie! Hope you and hubby are glamping it up with bedazzling glory and bling things in the tropics. 😉 We miss ya!
See? “Glamping” …This is what I’m talking about! I hate me some Nature, so if I’m ever forced out in it again, I’m taking the glamping route and bedazzling myself an RV. Thanks so much for the linkage, Natalie!
So funny you wrote about this. I discovered it a while back and wrote a post about it too because I find it so hilariously entertaining.

OMG FABULOUS!! I love it!! LOL!!
Um…I ‘may’ have some of these. 🙂
Yeah…I stand with the majority on the other side of the line. My idea of roughing it is having to deal with hangers that are permanently attached to the rod in the closet. 🙂
Hope you and the hubby are having a great vacation!
Girls Girls Girls!! Hotels, cabins etc?!?! Does anyone like to “rough” it any more? Ok, I will concede that a box of wine is MUST for sure but there’s nothing quite like being at one with nature! 🙂
Just teasing…I get it!!! Camping isn’t for everyone but love that you all have your own ways to get away! 🙂
