ROW80 – Round 1 – Check-in #18

Time for Sunday’s ROW80 progress update.

Writing Goals:

  • Complete outline of WIP
Ain’t gonna happen this round and I am ok with it.
  • Write 1750 words a week, on average 250 words a day (can be on WIP or other writings like flash fiction, character development, world building etc)
    628 total
Yes, this did not move from Wednesday but I have a very good reason. I am working on my entry for Jenny Hansen’s Dirty Fighting contest so I’ve been editing and playing around with those 628 words all week – FUN!! I have likely met and exceeded my word goal with all my rewriting, adding, deleting and revising!
  • Finish James Scott Bell book
  • Read 2 other writing craft books
Done Will Write for Shoes: How to Write a ChickLit Novel
    1/2 through Save the Cat
  • NEW goal: Complete weekly assignments of Plotting Via Motivation (March 5-30, 2012)

Social Media Goals:

  • Blog – post 4 times a week
    4 posts – total word count: 1420
  • Blog – post ROW80 progress reports twice a week (Sunday and Wednesday)
  • Tweet/Comment on at least 10 blogs a week
  • Comment on 1 new blog per week (ROW80 or otherwise)

Healthy Lifestyle Goals:

  • Cardio – 3 times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Saturday)
    2 cardio
  • BowFlex – 3 times a week (Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday)
    2 BowFlex
  • Maintain a daily food/migraine journal

The wins:

  • Felt I did great at making writing a priority regardless of the word count.
  • I took Emma’s advice (fahhhbulous) and moved Save the Cat to the bathroom and made great progress reading my craft book this week. Wonderful way to ensure I read both craft and fiction every day! LOL!
  • Social media was great although I haven’t been as active the last few days (sorry – been busy having a great weekend with hubby). I’ll be around to see most of you later tonight and tomorrow.
  • May not have hit all my work outs but the 2 of each that I did were great! We had our final Death by Swimming class Monday and I hit a record 66 laps! And…hubby and I signed up for another 8-week of session (Thursday nights this time) so woot woot for us!

Where to improve:

  • Quite honestly, I think this was a bang up week balancing writing, social media, fun, and healthy lifestyle so I’m gonna say I want to aim to make every week as fabulous!
Now…I am off to walk the dog and then write some blog posts (my stockpile is just about depleted). Have a wonderful Sunday y’all! I’ll be back around the blogosphere tonight to say hello and have some fun…

How are you making out with your ROW80 goals?

  1. Wow, Natalie, you really are doing great! You’ve increased your workouts over the last few weeks and the way you’re feeling about your week is…well, fabulous! I think that’s probably the MOST important part…how well you feel you did. Kudos to you for a great week!

  2. Haha! I’m so glad that you like my craft reading plan! I’m reading the best book right now, bit by bit. 🙂 I am also super happy that you are pleased with the balance you had this week. We do have to have time for ourselves and life in our days and weeks. And writing a scene for a contest is writing. Good for you! It doesn’t have to be on your WIP to count as writing. When I feel stuck in a novel, I pull out the prompts and do some free-writing. That usually gets me unstuck and I can go back to the WIP feeling energized and inspired. Who knows where this dirty fighting scene may lead you?!

  3. Way to go! You’ve had a great week. Keep up the good work. Exercise goals are especially hard to meet!

  4. Holy swear word (because I don’t swear lol.) 66 laps!!!! You’re going a Goddess in Training (as Kait Nolan says). Love your first line “not gonna happen and I’m ok with it.” Can’t push yourself too hard, but you’ve been working on other writings which is great. Here’s to a great week!

    • WAHAHAHA!! Luv it Nicole! I felt your passion. Yeah, I was shocked at 66 laps and super pumped. My goal for the next session is to hit 75 laps in an hour. Squeee!!!
Here’s to you having a great week too!

  5. well done Natalie.

  6. Wow, girlie! 66 laps?! I was in competitive swimming in high school, and your accomplishment in IMPRESSIVE! I’d say you had a fabulous week – good luck with the dirty fighting contest!

  7. That’s a hilarious tip for reading through a craft book. I might have to try it.

How are you liking Save the Cat? I’ve been thinking of buying it.

    • Marcy, it rocks! LOL! I’m getting way more craft reading done although note taking is a bit of a challenge. LOL!
I am really enjoying it. With my lack of experience, it’s a bit hard to envision applying the concepts to books but I look forward to trying it out. Easy to read and he uses a lot of movie examples which helps me SEE how the concept works so that’s nice.

  8. Look at you knocking it all down!! I agree you rocked this week.

  9. I love your attitude! Good luck on your entry to the fighting contest. I wish I had time to enter. It sounds so intriguing.

  10. Good steady work, Natalie!

  11. What a terrific week, Natalie! You kicked it into gear. 66 laps? I’m tired now after reading that! I’ve got my scene for Jenny’s DFC to work on this coming week too. I’ve got some characters ready to throw down! Enjoy your week and keep rocking the ROW!

  12. I think you did great! And I’m in that Plotting class too! Maybe we can keep each other on the straight and narrow! (my dumb ass signed up for three classes this month! *facepalm*)

  13. 66 laps and you signed up for the next session??? *pompoms waving, crowds cheering* F.A.B.U.L.O.U.S.
I’m so glad you are taking Jenny’s challenge. I meant to suggest you check the Women On Writing (WOW) website as they have great flash fiction contests and they are a fantastic way to get those writing juices flowing!
    Rock on, Nat!

  14. It was a bang up week. Go you! Good luck in Jenny’s challenge 🙂 All the best for the upcoming week.

  15. 66 laps = seriously hot shoulders to match that seriously perfect CHIN. Bahahahahaha!!!

Anyway, I’ve got some laughter in store for you tomorrow. Two words: Undie Chronicles. 🙂

Can’t wait to see some dirty fighting entries. You and me have a side deal, regardless of how it goes in the contest. WOOT-WOOT!!

  16. You’re doing great! 66 laps is amazing, and I think you should count writing for Jenny’s contest into your word count. That’s honing your skills, so it’s important:)

  17. Great job this week, Natalie. It seems you are finding a good balance between writing, social networking and exercise (2 out of 3 is still great in my opinion) and you seem far more relaxed – shows in the writing.

    Have a great week 🙂
