ROW80 – Round 1 – Check-in #1

Time for Wednesday’s ROW80 progress update and the first one for this round…eeeekeee….I feel like I am starting this round out RIGHT! Feeling pretty pumped up…

Writing Goals:

  • Complete outline of WIP
  • Write 1750 words a week, on average 250 words a day (can be on WIP or other writings like flash fiction, character development, world building etc)
    640 words so far – on track for this week
  • Finish James Scott Bell book
  • Read 2 other writing craft books
    Ordered Save the Cat

Social Media Goals:

  • Blog – post 4 times a week
    3 down – 1 to go
  • Blog – post ROW80 progress reports twice a week (Wednesday and Sunday)
    Wednesday – done
  • Tweet/Comment on at least 10 blogs a week
    Done but lost count – going to have to find a way to track this
  • Comment on 1 new blog per week (ROW80 or otherwise)
    1 for sure but I think there were more (really must start keeping track)

Healthy Lifestyle Goals:

  • Cardio – 3 times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Saturday)
    Monday – done and scheduled for tonight
  • BowFlex – 3 times a week (Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday)
    Tuesday – done
  • Maintain a daily food/migraine journal
    So far, so good

How are you making out with your ROW80 goals? Our of the gate like a lion…or a lamb?

    • Thanks Julie!! Just fired out another 956 words tonight on story development (FINALLY picked one) and had a blast. I’ll be looking to do some writing sprints in the next week or two. Lovin’ it! 🙂
      I know, eh!?! The V-word is…so…FUN!!! LOL!!

    I started well, too. Woke up really late and threw off my schedule, but I’m still on track. Rock it, Nat!

    • Thanks soo much Marcia. I am feeling more keyed up this round and way more prepared for what I need to do to make my goals happen so that definitely helps and keeps me motivated.
      Woot woot…glad to hear you are rocking it out as well. Sounds amazing! Sometimes a little late sleep and a time crunch makes us really pump it out. 🙂

    • Thanks sooo much Callene! I am hoping to be able to maintain my momentum and motivation over the next 80 days and coming out of the gate strong with a solid plan was key. I am sure with the encouragement of people like you and all the other ROW80ers, it’ll be a huge help when I want to beg off writing for reality TV. 🙂

  5. Great start, Natalie! I feel similar to you–that I know what I’m doing now and am starting off right. I also don’t feel like anything is a struggle. Growth is great. 🙂

    Love that you have the story picked now. Cool. Have you written any text for it? I dove in and wrote the start of mine last round because I felt I was getting bogged down in outline details and not writing. I’ll go back soon and revisit it as starts are important.

    • Growth is so great Barbara and I am thrilled to hear you are coming out of the gate strong as well this round.
      I have actualy written some text for it. I did a brief 80 word premise and I did two James Scott Bell exercises with it – quick look at the 3-act structure and the motivation of the lead etc. Still a long way to go but feels great to pick a direction.
      Yip, it’s not good to get bogged down in details – I think it can kill our mojo. I like the idea of doing writing stuff (character development etc) while also still working on plot outlining. I think that strategy would work wonderfully. You’ll have to keep me posted on how it’s coming and what you find works for you and what doesn’t! 🙂

  6. I’m so happy to see that your word count goals are not some crazy high amount. I see some people’s goals posted and feel that there is no way I can ever get that much written. Thanks for the reality check!

    • Absolutely Emma! I struggled with feeling the pressure of setting some higher goals but I had to be realistic about what I thought I could actually accomplish given my life…and 1750 a week (or 250/day) felt right for me. If I do more, great. If not, then I don’t feel like I am constantly failing. I want to build on success and this was the number I felt I could nail every week! So…do what feels right for YOU always! 🙂

  9. Great goals, Natalie! I like the way you have it all organized. You’re gonna rock the Row again!
    I have my list posted finally but it is a bit shorter than before. I need to concentrate on finishing my WIP and everything else seems just like a “fluff” right now 🙂
    I might be less active in the social media empire on many days because something has to finally give. But my participation will definitely pick up when the novel is finished 🙂

    Okay I feel like a just failed the ROW. I forgot to post on Wednesday. I don’t know if I can post twice a week. I’m feeling overwhelmed already. I think once is enough for me. I have too many commitments going on right now in my life. Errr. They might want to kick me out. I’ll shoot for Sunday or is it Monday. Oh I don’t know. Where do I find this info girl? I posted on Monday. I’m so mixed up. There may not be any hope for me. LOL!!!! 🙂

    • Karen, frett not, ROW80 is pretty relaxed!
      First, subscribe to the ROW80 Blog and that way you’ll get the cues to check-in (and great articles periodically) via email.
      Second, a lot of people only check-in once a week so that’s totally cool if you only do once a week. Just remember that whenever you do it, Sunday or Monday or whenever, to put a link to your update in the linky tool (on the blog) and tweet your link on twitter using the #row80 hashtag so we all know to go check out your update!
      You’ll be fine!!!! Seriously…very relaxed group so you’ll fit in wonderfully!! 🙂

  14. Great start out of the gate. Hope the momentum is continuing. I always start rounds raring to go, and then hit a slump. Here’s hoping 2012 causes few slumps!
