Tea steeping is an art form

OK, so all of you tea drinkers know there’s nothing more annoying than trying to get the perfect cup of tea time after time. There’s a fine line to steep it just so; too long and its bitter but to short and it’s watery and flavorless.

How many times have I set my tea to steep and got distracted doing something else? And I don’t know about you but I hate standing there dipping and bobbing waiting for the perfect tea. Unless I set an egg timer to go off or stand there hovering, there’s no telling what kind of cup I am going to wind up with. Tea steeping is an art form!

Well I have met the Picasso of tea steeping; the penguin tea timer.

This little guy not only times your perfect steeped tea but….wait for it….he PULLS your tea bag out when it’s ready. I know, eh!?!?!?!? So, even if you don’t hear the timer when it goes off, you will still be guaranteed perfectly brewed tea every time!

The only down side is that it only works with tea bags and not the metal infusers.

Seriously, I could just watch this little guy bob all day long. I’ve suddenly become a huge tea drinker because he just…I don’t know…makes me smile! Isn’t he adorable?!?!

Check this out! Someone posted a YouTube video of the little devil in action (I know?!?! It’s the cutest thing EVER…LOVE IT!?!?!) The real action happens at 0:48 – watch for it!!!

It’s a great gift idea for the tea drinker in your family. You can get yours from Amazon (although Amazon says it is currently unavailable right now) or from As Seen On TV Guys.com for $29.95.

It’s Twisted Tuesday and that means it’s time to enjoy a smile, giggle or laugh…here’s hoping I’ve provided it in spades…enjoy!

How do you steep your tea? Any neat gadgets you’ve found that make life easier?

  1. What a cute idea! I steep my tea by putting a lid from a pot over the cup. It helps the tea steep and keeps it warm in the process. I do have a problem with the timing, though. Sometimes I wait too long and it is cold. For me, tea and coffee can never be too strong or too dark, so there’s no such thing as “over-steeping”, just getting cold. I think that little guy would be fun for kids and maybe encourage them to choose peppermint tea over soda or hot chocolate.

    • Hi Emma, wonderful of you to stop by and drop a comment! 🙂
LOL – you and my aunt would get along beautifully! She could drink her tea black. But yes, keeping it hot while in the steeping process is another consideration. If you steep in a kettle, do you keep it on the stove on warm? Or if you steep in a mug, have you tried some of those mug warmers you can buy that you plug in. I think they are mostly geared towards keeping a coffee hot at the office but it’d work to keep your tea warm while steeping. Hmmm…I’ll have to go on a search for just such a gadget! LOL!
I agree, I think this would be GREAT to get kids into something other than soda! 🙂

  2. Where do you find these things Natalie? He’s so cute and the perfect cup, awesome!

P,G.Tips is our favorite for English Breakfast tea. Yum. Now do you like it with milk or plain black?
Our girl in the UK Donna Newton did a survey on Facebook last week on this subject.

Hopefully that tea will help keep y’all warm with all that snow you get in NB. Bundle up! 🙂

    • Gotta love the Web. LOL!
English Breakfast tea sounds wonderful. And I am a white with a teaspoon of sugar kind of tea gal. LOL!
Yeah, I’ll need a heck of a lot of tea to keep me warm through our NB winter but I’ll stick with it. LOL!

  3. Ohmygosh WANT. That is so adorable and innovative.

  4. OMG, he’s so cute! I am notorious for forgetting about the bag, lol. I may have to add this little guy to my Christmas list!

  5. Holy frikkin’ balls finally something I can get from your outrageous items! I always set a timer, but with this guy, who needs that? Love him.

Dear Santa, are you reading Natalie’s blog? Yeah, I want this. Kthxbai.

  6. Elena Aitken says:

Natalie, I say it all the time, but truly, you find the best stuff!
I stick my tea bag in and then usually get lost in the writing. By the time i pull it out, my Earl Grey is too strong. But then I usually get lost in the writing again anyway, so it gets cold. Really, I drink very little tea…

    • I try Elena! 🙂
I am the exact same. I always forget the darn thing so it’s one of the reasons I started drinking less tea. I was ruining more cups than I drank. LOL! Although I have found a blend of Lipton mango passionfruit green tea that you can steep till the cows come home and it only gets better. Perfection. LOL!

  7. Lol. That’s hilarious. I’m sending this post to a tea-loving friend.

  8. I KNOW WHAT I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS. Santa, take note.

Aaaaack, seriously, Natalie, that thing is just so. darn. cute. I am a tea fiend, but I am also lazy, which means I toss my tea strainer into my favorite pot and just let it, er, sit there (I also like my tea very strong). But this little device would get me to brew my tea in the ‘perfect’ way, i.e. not so dark and black that my spoon can stand up in it. 😉

    • SWEET!
Santa, take note of Lena’s request – she’s been such a good girl and totally deserves it.
Lena, I have an “in” with the fat fellow so here’s hoping he takes the hint. You, more than anyone I’ve seen, are in obviously dire need for this little ditty. Tea so dark and black your spoon stands up – arg! We can’t have that. 🙂

  9. Need one. NEED!

  10. Too cute! Of course I use those stringless bags from Celestial Seasonings….can you picture me stitching a little tag to each tea bag? Yeahnotsomuch. But seriously, that is just the cutest thing!

    Happy Thanksgiving, honey!

    • I can just see you now; needle, thread, tea bags and a frown. LOL! Oh well, it’s not for everyone but if it served up a smile or a giggle, my work is done here. LOL!
Happy Thanksgiving Callene, hope it rocks!

  11. He’s adorable, Natalie! That’s going on my list!
