Project Red Ribbon – will you wear yours?

Two years ago, my beautiful mother-in-law’s life was cut tragically short by an impaired driver. In honor of Donna Jean Kennie, please don’t drink and drive. Impaired driving is 100% preventable. Think about it.

MADD Canada's Project Red Ribbon

Every year around this time, hubby and I take part in MADD Canada’s annual holiday awareness campaign, Project Red Ribbon. We attach a red ribbon to our truck’s antenna. It symbolizes our commitment to drive sober and it’s a way for us to honor and remember Mamma K.

November 1st marks the launch of the 24th year of Project Red Ribbon. Working with sponsors, volunteers and supporters, MADD Canada plans to distribute millions of red ribbons across Canada between now and January 3, 2012 when the campaign ends.

The little red ribbon is a powerful way to show your support to drive sober and it reminds others to plan ahead for a safe ride home if they’re going to be drinking. I think it also serves as a reminder to people that impaired driving put lives at risk and that the deaths (approximately 1200/year) and injuries (68,500/year) resulting from this violent crime are needless and totally preventable.

You can show your support by attaching a red ribbon to your car, your purse, key chains, briefcase, and back pack. Now that’s uberlicious! I never thought of attaching the ribbons in multiple places but I will this year!

There is no better time of year than the holiday season when social gatherings and holiday toasts are common for us to share in a reminder of the power we have to stop impaired driving and make our communities safer.

I hope you will join me in taking part and showing your support for Project Red Ribbon! You can get yours through the MADD Canada website, Chapters and Community Leaders, and Allstate offices across the country.

And NEW this year, MADD Canada is also offering text donation option for supporters of Project Red Ribbon. Cell phone users can text “ribbon” to 45678 to donate $10 to MADD Canada and receive a special red ribbon pin. The donation is added to the user’s cell phone bill. How’s that for a fantastic rocking option?!?!! Luv it! I’ll be sending my text in 2.5 seconds! Easy breezy!

Support MADD Canada and follow them on Facebook, Twitter (@maddcanada), and on the Web.

Will you take part in Project Red Ribbon? Please…share…I want to know!
